The varsity boys basketball team traveled to Nationwide Arena to play in the night cap of 6 games as part of the Play By Play Classic Event. The Elks took on Pickerington Central in a rematch of last year's State Championship game. The game was very similar to last year's title game as the score remained tight the entire game. The Elks trailed 8-10 after the 1st quarter of play but led 21-20 at the half. Kyle Kenny and Jonathan Powell heated up offensively in the 2nd quarter to build a 21-13 lead but the Tigers scored the last 8 points of the half. The Elks once again struggled from the field overall and had many uncharacteristic turnovers.

The third quarter saw the overall intensity pick up as both teams dug in for the finish. The Elks led 33-30 heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter looked like a Championship game with each team making huge plays to stay in the game. Collin O'Connor hit a free throw with :12 seconds left to put the Elks up 44-42 buy the Tigers were able to score at the rim as time was running out to put the game into overtime.

Collin O'Connor his a big 3 pointer with 4.6 seconds left in the first OT to put the Elks up 50-49 but the Elks were called for a foul away from the ball with 1.4 seconds left and luckily the Tigers only made 1 of those free throws for a 50-50 tie and a second overtime period of play needed to decide this game.

Gabe Cupps scored off of the tip and then added 2 free throws to put the Elks up 54-50. Kyle Kenny made some huge plays in 2OT including free throws to clinch it and the Elks won the game 60-54.

Dulguun Gankhuyag had 14 points, Gabe Cupps 12 points and Kyle Kenny 11 points to lead the Elks.

Elks are now 4-1 on the season and will play next at Fairmont on Tuesday with 9th playing at 5:00, JV at 6:15 and Varsity at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only available online at
